2011 Metro Carvers of Michigan Show

By Doug Evans

The 2011 show, held March 19th and 2oth, was another HUGE success. As one of the few remaining two days shows in the Midwest, the Metro Carvers are proud to display some fantastic carvings year after year.
This was the 31st annual show and was held once again in Madison Heights, Michigan.

Over 1,000 visitors stopped by and 69 of the carvers present entered carvings for judging.

The Best of Show award this year went to Mike Murdock for an in-flight sanderling.
Cliff Lindahl, a new carver, received Second Best of Show honors with a turtle carved in bark.
Dick Lamphier with a basswood cowboy was awarded Third Best of Show.

People’s Choice winners were:
1st place - Larry Piotrowski – an open wing owl
2nd place - Jason Haight - a bark carved turtle
3rd place - Jerry Grusendorf - another turtle

Long time club member Pat Murphy was the featured carver. Pat carves all kinds of animals, songbirds, chip carvings and relief. Pat carves a lot of variety to go along with a bunch of talent.

Congratulations to now retired Show Chairman Mike LePage for 10 years of hard work and Mary Jo & Larry Brown for picking up the baton and organizing another quality show!

Metro Carvers are affiliated with the Michigan Woodcarvers and will be holding their 2012 Show on March 17 and March 18, 2012 —we’ll see ya there !!
