Routering is accomplished with a sturdy Makita 2hp plunge router. This stage takes total concentration and a firm grip on the router. I use a 3/8" carbide bit, which allows me to go as deep as 1-1/8" into the panel.

Ear protection and a dust mask are essential.

All the saw dust is removed completely before I proceed with removing the islands of wood left by the router.
