It started out as the Great Pig Out (GPO), a supposed one-time event to gather together wood carvers, roast a pig, and benefit the local Boy Scout troop in the summer of 1999. Hosted by Joe Dillett at The Carving Shop in Somonauk, IL, the event was followed by another GPO, and then eventually morphed into the Gathering Of Woodcarvers (GOW). After several iterations, Joe and his support staff decided to take a break from the massive chore of hosting the GOW, but is was decided to have a GOW reunion in the summer of 2013. In addition to gathering woodcarvers, it also served as an excuse to plan a roast of “Ol’ Don” Burgdorf, to honor his many years of promoting woodcarving to the world. Based on the photos, a great time was had by all. Congratulations to Ol’ Don, and to Joe Dillett and his staff for another great event.
