The first road trip in September found your Editor off across the border to Kitchener, Ontario to attend the 2006 International Carver's Conference, another fine effort from Dennis "Pop" Moor and the gang at Chipping Away. The ICC included a wide variety of seminars and hands-on classes from an excellent group of presenters, including:
I attended a number of the seminars and Rick Jensen's hands-on class on bark carving. Rick is an entertaining instructor who enjoys spreading the word about carving whimsical houses in cottonwood bark, a genre he pretty much invented. If you get a chance to take a seminar with Rick, don't pass it up.
Putting a well-run conference together is a tremendous amount of work. Moor has decided to give his staff a break and take a year off, but plans are already in the works for the next conference September 12-14, 2008, back in Kitchener. Mark your calendar now for a great carving experience.
