Metro Show 2007

By Doug Evans

St. Patrick’s Day could not have been more special for the Metro (MI) Carvers and guests at this year's show. Leprechauns and blarney galore were the theme for the weekend. Metro  members and visitors old and young alike came dressed in their green. At times maybe we looked a little goofy but we all had a great time.

Bruce Henn, a recent CCA inductee, was the big winner. Bruce took Best of Show with a mountain man bust carved in basswood. Bruce also was awarded  3rd Best of Show with a relief carving of a cowboy. Both carvings were excellent. Many folks were confused as to which carving was Best of Show and which was the other. Congratulations once again to Bruce. We enjoyed having him and his wife visit us.

Second Best of Show went to John Karalunas for a caricature carving entitled Happy Hour. This was intriguing carving of an old west bar scene. John has recently been awarded a couple of special CCA awards just to show the excellent quality and consistency of John’s carvings. Congrats to John also !!!

The People’s Choice award fittingly went to John Marovich, Metro Show Featured Carver this year. John has been awarded over 100 blue ribbons. They have been awarded all over Michigan and Ohio and at the Dayton show and Dollywood. He also has written articles and has been featured in Chip Chats.

The Metro Show continues to be one of the few remaining two day shows in the Midwest and many argue that only the Dayton show surpasses it in size and attendance.

Hats off once again to the Show chairpersons, Mike LePage and Barb & Bill Wolfe.

Next year’s show will be March 15-16, 2008 so don’t miss it. We would love to have ya !!!
