29th Annual Metro Carvers Show

By Doug Evans

No federal bailout needed here!!! This was the show that everyone warned us about, especially the decision to continue our two day show. Despite all the warnings, we set record attendance figures !!  Folks kept telling us carving show attendance in general was down and "Hey, besides that—you’re in Detroit- no one will show up"!! Showing good old American pride, the committee and the chairperson’s dug in, went to work and good results happened.  One hundred ten tables were sold and 1,237 people stopped by.

Mike and Mary Jo LePage chaired this event with the help of good friends Bill and Barb Wolfe. They and the committee did outstanding work !! The LePages  and Wolfes were awarded appreciation plaques by the club for this show and many previous year’s hard work and dedication.

Larry Eichler was the year’s big winner with Best of Show for an outstanding relief. Bill Przybylski took Second Best of Show with a beautiful animal carving. Gary Bityk. the Featured Carver this year, took the Third Best of Show with one of his bark carvings. Congrats to all the BIG winners !!

Other show winners were Edgar Poststades , People’s Choice; Tom Hunter, Carver’s Choice; and Angela Podgorski, Youth Winner.

The blanket swap continued so basements and garages could be cleaned and fun be had by all. Soap carving classes were offered, a mini-carving competition for bragging rights, and FREE seminars ran non-stop for 2 long days ! The Sunday morning fellowship breakfast keeps growing with 83 joining us for breakfast .

We would like to thank all the helped put on this show, who had a table and especially  those folks who took time to stop by !!!

We’ll see ya next year !
