Relief Carving: Patterns, Tips and Techniques

by W.F. Judt

Former E-zine editor Bill Judt has released his second book, Relief Carving: Patterns, Tips and Techniques. Bill is a talented carver and teacher, which shows through in this, his second book.

By all accounts, this book is as good as Bill's first publication. Carver and teacher Joe Dillett recently sent the following email:

Hi Bill,

One of my students is working on a pattern in your new book. Your design is superb and your instructions are very clear. He has just started carving a short while ago and already his confidence level is quite high because of your well-written instructions. I just want to say, "Great Job".

The text from the back cover of the new book follows the image:

From the back cover:

Join the ever growing community of relief carvers with this complete introduction to relief carving. Author and relief carving artist Bill Judt shares his tricks and techniques and personal insights gathered over 25 years of relief carving. He deals with the practical side of relief carving covering the basics, from choosing woods to buying chisels, to laminating boards and stamping backgrounds.

A step-by-step demonstration and patterns help you get started on your own relief carving.

For those interested in taking their hobby to the next level, Bill includes time-tested advice for breaking into the world of commission carving.

This book is the second for Bill, following his delightful and well-received patterns book "Relief Carving Treasury", published two years ago.

The book is 100 pages, in full color, with many dozens of photos and drawings, and numerous patterns. ISBN#1-56523-097-3

The book is available from several of our E-zine sponsors, including Mountain Heritage Crafters and LeatherPlus, or from your local wood carving supply store.
