Decorative Art Plaques by a New IAPA Member

From Vancouver, Canada are the two samples shown here of Ilanna Mandel's Peace Board Project.

Ilanna explains the motivation for her latest project this way:
"I have a passion for art and peace. I have finally combined my two loves into one project--The Peace Board. Each one is made by me personally and makes a beautiful gift for Chanukah, Christmas, the Winter Solstice or whatever peaceful holiday you celebrate.

Moreover, proceeds from the sale of these boards will go to Seeds for Hope. This is a project by author/activist Jennifer Heath, who lives and works in Boulder, Colorado. You can find out about her project at: www.taparts.org and www.jenniferheath.com. Seeds for Hope brings real relief and practical assistance to the people of Afghanistan, a country close to Jennifer's heart. However, if you prefer, I will donate proceeds to a charity of your choice."

The Author

Kathleen M. Garvey Menéndez learned her pyrography techniques in Guatemala in1975-1977. Her sister, Artist Sharon H. Garvey, later joined her there to collaborate on a pyrography project designed to promote this art form in the United States by means of a didactic book and a pyrography tool made by Navarro of Mexico.

Thanks to the internet, this is the completion of the seventh year of articles on pyrography for the Woodcarvers Online Magazine (WOM), started January 1997, and the sixth year of the E-Museum of Pyrographic Art, which opened its virtual doors January 1998. In March of that year, the International Association of Pyrographic Artists (IAPA) was formed, and members began meeting on line. Linked from the E-Museum's Café Flambé, which hosts the IAPA meetings, is the Yahoo Groups uniting_pyrographers mailing list, member list, and chat forum set up by IAPA Cofounder Mixo Sydenham of Australia for IAPA members.
